Wolfpack Reader Tutoring Program
This program paired NCSU students with ESL students. My student was in 3rd grade. We worked on sight word development, word work activities, comprehension, reading fluency, and writing. This student used science books to learn about strange and unusual animals. A Weebly page was created to show interesting facts learned and written about during our tutoring sessions. The student enjoyed picking out the pictures and typing his stories on the laptop. This student grew a reading level during this time but most importantly gained confidence in himself with reading.

Writing Strategy Used With First Grade Intervention Group Presentation of Project Presented By Vimeo
I used Jennifer Serravello's The Writing Strategy Book with my first grade intervention group. This group did not enjoy writing and would not sound out words. Their thoughts were unorganized and they became frustrated easily. This writing strategy helped my students to gather ideas for writing. First, we practiced drawing pictures and included at least three details. Then, we used our illustrations to help us write. Students were more eager to write because they could use their illustrations as a guide. Their enthusiasm for writing increased by using their illustrations to guide their writing. Students then shared their stories with their classmates. I was so excited about this idea, that I shared it with the Beginning Teachers at my school.

Our K-1 Multi-age students learned about reading and writing through the content area of science. We explored spiders using ebooks. We wrote about interesting facts using the app, Scribble My Story. Students participated in a survey using Plickers to determine the effectiveness of learning about spiders using digital tools. The results were encouraging. Students found the use of technology to be exciting and motivating. Their enthusiasm and motivation to read and write improved with the use of digital technology.
