So much of our instruction is driven by test data. With that being said, how can we address mClass demands and provide instruction that is motivating and rigorous for our students? The answer lies in our ability to integrate technology and reading in the content areas.

We must help our students realize the connections between writing and our everyday lives and how we share information and communicate with one another through an enriched writing classroom. Writing should occur daily in the kindergarten classroom and should be modeled for the students so that they understand how to utilize writing effectively according to their developmental level.

Students learned how to write using a technological format which utilized a variety of research tools. They gained a new appreciation of writing and were truly excited to use the writing app. Each first grader was engaged as they explored their options for creating their book. The students really enjoyed recording their voices. This was probably the feature that created the most excitement.

Collaboration With First Grade Teacher to Work on Academic Vocabulary Instruction
The person I decided to collaborate with for the PBC cycle, is a first grade teacher. I am pushing in with this teacher to help our first grade students prepare for the EOY TRC assessments. We are working together to develop rigor and differentiation within our classroom instruction. I consulted The Common Core Coaching Book as a guide to assist me with the PBC cycle. The group of students that we are working with are reading on levels E-G according to their MOY TRC scores. Our goal is to help these students develop and apply academic vocabulary. We will also focus on helping them to build their writing skills.
